A year after the government called for evidence on the regulation of pre-paid funeral plans, a consultation paper on its new proposed policy has just been published.

Having looked at how the market currently operates, the government is proposing that all funeral plan providers should be controlled by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The government says the objective is make sure that pre-paid funeral plan providers are:
• subject to robust and enforceable conduct standards
• properly overseen
• part of an appropriate dispute resolution process if things go wrong.
In Britain we’re not very good at talking about one of the few life events that we can be sure about. Our death.

It’s good to talk
Even though almost one third of us say that we think about dying once a week, we don’t talk about it, explain our wishes to our loved ones or make any plans.

The hospice and neurological care charity, Sue Ryder, is encouraging people to talk to those closest to them about their own death.
Those of us currently leading active, healthy lives can look forward to living for many more years than earlier generations.

However, the Alzheimer’s Society has recently published figures showing the number of people living with dementia will more than double in the coming decades, partly because we are all living longer.
With space running out for Burials what other options do we now have? In many parts of London you can no longer opt to be buried, and those parts of London that are still offering burials, they are making the graves deeper so that you are buried on top of someone else. Eco-Burials Grounds are filling up, one local to ourselves near Olney is now full. So what are the other options? Cremation, or a new method coming to the UK soon, Eco-Cremation.
Having a Pre-Paid Funeral Plan in place, means that you are securing the cost of your funeral at today's prices, with the cost of funerals set to rise over the coming years, you know that having secured the cost at today's prices, your family wont have to worry about paying for your funeral in the future, or were that money is going to come from.
